Subject: You HAVE to read this article about the election from a powerful   Jewish liberal man in the entertainment industry.

Reply: No thanks. Huh uh. Hard pass.

 .

I’m not in the fucking mood right now. I’m sure it’s sensitive, intelligent, and profoundly human. I’m sure he’s heartbroken over the outcome of the election, pained about the inevitable suffering that will befall those less fortunate in whiteness and penis-having than him. And yet his outlook is still drizzled-- as was his salmon entrée at Café Bouchon today, with not cold-pressed olive oil, but hope. Encouraging us cowering women and people of color not to fear. For he, and his nuanced take on the bending arc of justice, are here.

 .

Yeah, I do not give a wet fart.

 .

These outpourings from anguished white liberal men of means read as nothing more than bids for validation from women and people of color right now. In the guise of paternalistic reassurance, we are being asked to tell them that they are good. Not like those other white guys saying the bad things.

 .

Yeah, see above. About the wet fart. Here’s why.

 .

Among the many other sickening realizations that came with the dawn on Wednesday morning, was the fact that we will now spend four years with a fragile, dangerous male narcissist-in-chief.

 .

As a younger, more wet-fart-giving woman working in the entertaiment industry, I had to laugh at so many shitty, offensive jokes, and smile to prop up the egos of so many mediocre fragile men. I compromised myself constantly, because I believed it would get me to the larger goal. Where my voice, and not theirs, would be the one heard. It’s been a long, slow climb, with so many insults and injuries along the way. It’s that compromise, that tenacity, that I related to so much in Hillary. And now, after everything she’s been through, she is denied power. Silenced. My sense of loss and hopelessness is so profound, my throat aches. My gut hurts. To be an ambitious, intelligent, patient, pragmatic, rule-following, hard-working woman in America today is to feel kicked in the teeth. Grabbed in the pussy. Pushed face down in the dirt.

 .

Powerful white guys in the industry—in any industry!-- don’t feel this. Their voices will not be silenced in Trump’s America. So no, I don’t want to read Award-Winning straight white dude’s viral obituary for American democracy. Or that other guys. Or that other guys. I want all those guys to do this: LISTEN MORE. To women. To people of color.

 .

And… cue defensive reaction! Rant about the wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother that he so deeply respects and defers to. Oh, and that woman and/or person of color on his writing staff, whom he also respects. (although, he will not be picking up her option because she’s not a great “personality fit” in the room. But he’ll write her a warm recommendation).

 .

Yeah, you’re a great dad. A kind husband. People are more than one thing. You’re also a demanding, fragile, narcissistic man asking us to hear you, and tell you that you are good. And I don’t fucking want to right now. So here’s your 3 point to-do list, dude:

 .

  1. Listen more.
  2. Listen more.
  3. Listen more.
