An ordinance in Sandy Springs, Georgia requires a doctor's prescription to allow the purchase of a sex toy. And a prescription isn't an easy thing to come by, according to Melissa Davenport. She's got MS, which is screwing with her nerve pathways, and consequently her sex life. She claims vibrators have saved her marriage, and she's going to court to challenge the constitutionality of restricting vibrator access. She says people have "dirty minds about how these things will be used."
But isn't that the damn point? Why should anyone need a medical justification for using something which has no potential for harm to feel good? This is all very Victorian England. Which is where the whole vibrator thing started in the first place, as a way to cure women's so-called hysteria. Let Jessica Valenti explain.
