The danish word Hygge (pronounced in a way that is impossible to replicate without a Danish accent, but sounds something like HOO-GEH) is used to describe the comforting things people do to take the edge off the harsh realities of life. It doesn't really have a direct English correlation, but "coziness" comes closest. The Danes use Hygge to stave off the doldrums during the long dark winter, using such varied and appealing tools as wine, chocolate, candlelight and cuddling while watching television. Seems like we could all use a little of this right about now.
