I was just revisiting the early nursing days in a chat with some parents, and over a decade later, there are still things people feel weird and bad about. So here's a new movie that attempts to break down the weirdness. But it is making people feel a little bad. Because that's the thing, isn't it, with breastfeeding? For some people, it can be super easy (one woman in this film lactated without actually giving birth, and emerged with some degree of smugness). But breastfeeding can also be really, really hard—I can testify to this from my own experience. And when people decide not to do it (or do it anymore) for whatever set of valid, personally-determined reasons, they sometimes wonder if they made the right choice or not. Then when someone talks about breastfeeding in a positive way, even if the headline is nonjudgmental, people who didn't do it feel judged. Is there a way to talk about breastfeeding positively without people who didn't breastfeed interpreting it negatively?
