The Woman Behind The Dead Boys
The CBGB movie left me with many questions. Mostly nitpicky things like: 'Is that really the best they could do for Lou Reed?' and 'How could that perfectly cute guy make Richard Hell so desperately unsexy?' And of course, wardrobe. These will likely never be answered. But it also made me want to know more about Dead Boys producer and all around bad-ass Genya Ravan. Then I dug up this local news clip from 1977 and learned about Goldie Zelkowitz from the Lower East Side and how she became the first female producer in rock.

Great minds think alike. I think the depiction of Lou Reed drove me crazy the most. But Hilly was spot on from my memory of him!
Yes, Alan Rickman was definitely the highlight. And Rupert Grint was a surprisingly convincing Cheetah Chrome. Did Lou even have a Long Island accent?
Bad-Ass Ms. Genya is the most interesting person I’ve ever met and believe she should have that bad-ass career all over for those who missed her the first time!! She deserves it and trust me….you don’t want to miss her!!
