A related question: When the word girl has such negative associations, why are adult females so desperate to cling to it indefinitely? Woman has its own issues, but weakness isn't one of them. Is it as simple as youth, or is there something else we're afraid to lose—-or gain-—if we graduate from girl and embrace the word woman?

I think is just a great ad. It reveals the true reality: girls act like girls because that´s what we are. Awsome!!!
Love that, comment, Malissa! As you know, the title of my film, “Fight Like a Girl” comes from that exact sentiment. Taking it back so that young women will know that “like a girl” is a good thing. Any of the women or girls I know who do things “like a girl” are amazing forces to be reckoned with. I’m glad we are discussing this!

I use the word “girl” as part of my blog: Girlboxing
The use of the word girl was VERY purposeful in the sense of Greco/Roman mythology where female athletes were embued with power. From my perspective, making that link as a then woman in my 50s and now proud 60 year old was a means of saying I can and remain powerful despite any pejoratives associated with womanness. To link to girlness is to link to running like the wins. It is a connection to freedom that translates into letting go of the strictures we inculcate over our lifetimes that often prevent use from embracing our physical bodies and the chance to perform athletic tasks with full abandon. Girlness is very, very cool and to be able to touch that in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond does not mean negating womaness, it just means that you have all of the aspects of life rolled into one. BTW, to fight like a girl means to enter the ring with courage and bravery!!!
