In Queen Rey's newest video, "Shades of Cool", one of the first shots we see is a super imposed pair of male eyes over a DTLA landscape. Without doubt, the whole video is stunning and seductive, but there's just one (huge) problem -- Not only is the song essentially about the ultimate daddy issue and caring for someone whose vices run their life (stylishly, at least) the whole video features our little Lana rolling around on the floor, dancing, and even swimming in a pool where the male character can watch her like she's a dolphin at Sea World. The whole video is male gaze-y, which artistically suits the material, but that still perpetuates its acceptance in society and art. Has this gone too far? Has the line between art and its impact on society gone grey? Lana del Grey? Sorry, I'll stop. Check out the video and share your thoughts!
