With 5x as many women getting labioplasty last year, you'd think there would be some sense of what lady parts are "supposed to" look like, right? Well, you'd be wrong. As recently as 2005, there were zero serious studies available on the shape and size of female genitalia. (Naturally, Penis size has been extensively catalogued since the late 19th century.) When they did do a study a few years ago, they found that "normal" labia could vary enormously—something you could easily determine from feminist art projects, but definitely not from the most common source of vagina-viewing: porn. Which is why the same study attributed the increase in surgery to same.
