This is What Everyday Sexism Feels Like...to a Man
What does a day in the life of a woman look like? Maybe it's easier to see if the woman is a man. Oppressed Majority is a French short by Éléonore Pourriat uses role reversals to shine a new light on the micro-aggressions and macro-aggressions that are an all-too-common part of the female experience. The result is more thought-provoking than laugh-inducing.

Like the opening song? We found the original version! See it here.
Get real this is just typical bullshit. We need more right bla bla bla . Women have more rights then ever before and who r they being taken from MEN. Try being a divorced father then get back to me you whiney bunch of fucking losers
“sluts get what they deserve stay home if you don’t wanna get raped”
Well done on being completely ignorant about issues brought up by the film. People with opinions like yours are the most vile human beings alive, shame you weren’t drowned at birth to save us the trouble of listening to your utter drivel.
I definitely sympathise with some of the issues brought up, equality is important. I’m pretty sure the film isn’t being used to the extreme and portray all men as disgusting, more an eye opener than anything else.
I also see this sometimes during the day, men calling out after women they happen to like the look of and think its just harmless banter, its gross.
I have seen some of the most ignorant comments on here from both men, and shamefully women. Josh you seem to be one of the only people with their heads on straight. Maria you sound like you’re 23. Read a book and get back to us. Because you dress understated you’ve never been provoked?! are you effing kidding me?! Women get raped in pajamas, track pants, grannies get raped, babies get raped… women get raped no matter what they are wearing. Give me a f&*cking break. Actually women do understand other women. They just get this patriarchal bullcrap that you are spewing, Dan, pushed down their throats all the time. Oh Joseph, you think because a women wants you to buy her dinner that she wants it both ways. You probably make more than her you jackass, that’s how our economy works .75 cents to your every dollar. You want women to be equal? Start by paying them the same wages and benefits. Think of the dichotomies and disparities in our society. Women are paid less, women are abused more, women are religiously oppressed more often. Women have to carry babies but get no little to not time to raise them, paid nothing or only 55% of their wage to live off of while they raise said baby. Women have it better than ever?! No society has just made a great job of covering their tracks. If one more white men comments on this post with something they have no understanding about I might just scream.
This is absolute Bullshit see what you did was pick out the worst things you and only you could possibly find and put it all together like this is everyday normal life like this is the absolute worst and possibly extreme things you could find.
too try hard. plus, women have never had it as good as they do right now, what with affirmative action, no-fault divorce and enforced resource transfers from men to women. and yet they want more and more, not “equality”.
They used every extreme that they can use for this in a movie, further forcing the idea that this shit happens to all women all the time, which i can promise doesn’t. Its not like us women are damsel’s in distress or anything. If you truly want a change, please refrain from using the utmost extremes. Im a 23 year old woman and this maybe happened once, but nowhere near like any of this portrayed in the short film. Seriously, it makes us look fucking pathetic and weak in the film, yet it will lead people to think this happens everyday or something. Good message but he went about it the complete wrong way.
The point of the film is to make you think about this issue, about how women are seen and treated in most of societies. Almost every woman has suffered, in one way or another, some kind of harassment or abuse (verbal or non-verbal). I know a few real examples!
Scary accurate film that wakes you up as a man. As a man I was always aware and tried never to be insulting, and treat women with respect but this just shocks you with the reality of being a woman.
The film made me uncomfortable because I’ve experienced so much of this. It is frightening at times to be a woman and deal with stuff like this. There are a lot of rules to being a woman. I wish I had the freedom to walk the streets and never worry about being harassed. It would be a perfect world.
i’ve experienced almost none of this kind of sexism, maybe because i dress in a way that’s comfortable and understated. maybe also because i automatically push back when idiots get on my case.
As above, seriously if in doubt, ask your female friends, your mother, sister, grandmother, daughter. I can’t imagine that not one of them would be able to sheed light or offer insight!
As a guy, I’ve had women randomly grab my ass, feel up my anus from behind me and grab my penis in open public places such as malls, on the street and in clubs. Never was it solicited, nor was I ever wearing any provocative clothing. There are women predators out there too and though they likely may be fewer and not reported as often as men, they do exist.
As the roles in society are changing where women are being more and more assertive and taking on more dominant roles. How the majority of women are portrayed in the video may not be how women as a whole are actually like in this day and age, but slowly we are being more equal in our bad behaviors.
Just like average men will go up to good looking women, the same is true that average women will approach good looking men. I’m not that good looking and I still get annoyed sometimes when too many women come up to me or flirt with me in front of my girlfriend, or while I’m working. Though there are good looking women too that are real predators that use men, but that’s a different issue (though not too different).
I could go on with my personal stories of people I know and past relationships, etc, but I won’t.
One thing I did find was good to point out was about the oppressed Muslim woman. I know some that aren’t, but that’s here in Canada where Muslim women in Canada do have more rights, but some are very traditional and it’s sad to see them held back from society. I see at Muslim weddings all the time when I photograph them how even taking pictures of the bride or any female of the families can be an issue.
I agree with many points brought up but I still feel that as time goes by the roles of women and men are blending to the point where these problems are going to be more universal. I really don’t see an end to sexual abuse and sexist attitudes in society.
@Joseph Just because you tend to date that kind of women sure doesn’t mean all American females are that way. I personally always either split and in most cases buy my dates dinner, as I make a good salary and would feel horrible if they were buying everything… Any decent girl/woman would do the same as long as she isn’t completely broke or something.
I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the film. Its aim wasn’t to portray ALL men as assholes… but it was only an 11 minute film so it can hardly give a balanced argument. It is more of a tool to demonstrate a point. It can hardly be realistic and put across its message fully in 11 minutes.
Think the rape scene was some what flawed though, suggesting groups of lairy men are akin to rapists as well.
and @mxd.
I’ve always thought that feminists/people in general protesting the whole “buying dinner thing” a bit ridiculous. I buy my girlfriend dinner, not because she’s a woman but because I want to and like to treat my partner…
If I was gay I would do the same for my male partner. Doesn’t have to have anything to do with gender issues/ repression.
“by nature women are more vulnerable than men.” <<< FACT
"They do not want to be treated like men…" <<< FICTION
woman#1: equal rights for men and women!
woman#2: we want to be understood and appreciated!
woman#3: we don't know what we want! <<< Never a truer statement spoken
I don’t know how many times I’ve bought a woman dinner only to have her complain about men. American women want it both ways. Feminism that portrays men as predators is doomed to fail. Most men love and adore and cherie women and suggesting otherwise is crummy and evil.
I’ve also never had any experiences like this. Of course, I’ve lived in a small town for most of my life, so maybe it’s different in a large city. Also, I live in the Southern US. All the men I’ve run into are very respectful and hold doors open for me and don’t speak to a stranger unless spoken to in most cases. (Women do this too, before anyone comments on the sexism.)
All men are assholes and creeps. I havent heard that before. Seems to be the way feminists want to get their message accross these days. Doesnt help the cause at all if you ask me. I am all for equality in every sense of the word, but portraying every man the same way is not theh way to get there.
Enlightened people have written already, as women’s due is still due, to be understood n sppreciated to create harmony n peace to grow n coexist not to overpower..
After living in France for a year I can attest to having been in similar catcalls and open remarks made by men to me and having to walk away for fear that I may cause an even greater remark by the man. My only problem with the film is how the woman wearing the hijab is used as a way to give into the all too familiar Western feminist notion that all Muslim women wearing the hijab do so, not out of their own agency, but because of the men in their life. Also, the hijab is NOT necessary as the film so wrongly stated. Also, with my time spent in France I have noted much anti-Muslim/anti-Arab sentiment that I think this film (sadly) makes a clear focus onto that. Not saying that gender disparity within the Muslim world is not a reality for the women living in those situations, but it does irk me that the “oppressed Muslim woman” always seems to be the go to stereotype for this particular group of people. Just something to think about. Loved the film.
I agree, this is how it feels to be a woman and the video makes a great attempt of portraying that. By nature, women are more vulnerable than men. They do not want to be treated like men, but to be understood and appreciated for who they are, not taken advantage of.

Fuck the French! Do they have to over exaggerate everything or what?! I love their idea of multiculturalism too = plain old racism…

I would hardly consider being sexually assaulted at knife-point “every day sexism”?

This is disgusting, as an avid SJW for women’s rights I think this is pure rape culture and slanders the feminist movment. Shame on you all!

Very inaccurate to use the word “feminist”. It’s MATRIARCHAL that they should’ve used.
In a feminist society NOBODY would be harassed or abused for their gender.
I don’t mind change the diaper and baby walking if I can see tits hanging everyday!!
I’ve also never had any experiences like this. Of course, I’ve lived in a small town for most of my life, so maybe it’s different in a large city. Also, I live in the Southern US. should i have those experiences first to give any
comment.

@mxd So i take it you don’t buy dinner for women? Being a fan of equality and all?
I disagree with you in history we have seen women rise to statue higher than men. We have created this barrier together lets bring it down.
