Wow, it boggles my mind to read some of these comments. Ignorance much, people? Educate yourselves, the truth is out there. Don’t just gather confirmation bias. Learn what an intelligent question is, and how to ask one. First off, genetic engineering is NOT the same as “what breeders and farmers have been doing for thousands of years.” Derp! Read up on genetic modification. Second of all, do you understand that toxic chemicals destroy beneficial organism in the soil and in the gut flora? Do you even know what a biome is? Nobody knows the long-term effects but what we do know is that the loss of gut and soil bacteria leads to a progressive degeneration of health and productivity of the ecosystem. So, yeah, expand your horizons and you might learn something. Next up is bio-accumulation. Yes, you might only absorb a tiny tiny micro-dose from eating non-organic produce. Does that mean it’s good for you? Hmm, I don’t know, let’s look up some pictures of them applying some of this stuff. It’s proven to have adverse effects on many species and progressively stronger effects as it moves up the food pyramid. As apex predators, humans bio-accumulate a wide range of these chemicals. For example, the bio-cumulative properties of something like Glyphosate in mother’s milk are well-documented, which means the youngest and most susceptible to even trace amounts of chemicals during early stages of neurological development–the fetus and the infant– is potentially exposed to the highest concentrations in the environment. Hurrdurrr, that’s prob’ly safe tho, amiriteguyz? No. Lastly, when we talk about research and what’s “proven” and isn’t, keep in mind that 90+ % of what’s out there is industry-sponsored science propagated by an industry that notoriously operates on enormous conflicts of interest and is regularly given authority to police itself. Still think it’s safe? The same industry that sprayed DDT on children in the 60s as they proclaimed that it was “proven safe”, put cancerous PCBs into children’s toys and dumped hundreds of thousands of gallons of toxic waste in the water supply. Please, open your eyes and your brain and make an effort to learn something about the world. Lastly, let’s not forget that none of this gene-splicing and chemical over-application have been extensively tested because they haven’t been subject to the strictest guidelines of public safety. If you think the FDA, USDA, CDC or any other agency is there to keep you safe, do some more research…. It’s being tested on you and your kids, out in the open world, with no safety nets or rewind buttons… and you’re letting it happen. Once in the environment there is absolutely no way to control the genetic proliferation of this material and its potentially disastrous DNA-disrupting properties over the long term. It’s something that, once past a certain threshold, we’ll be powerless to reverse. Why do you think there are seed vaults?
Look into the genetic diversity of heirloom crops circa last 50 years,
look into the consolidation of the biotech industry,
look into the revolving door policy @ major government institutions,
look into the proliferation of neurological disorders and birth defects,
look into the well-known risks of exposure to pesticides,
look into the bilderberg group.
look into everything.
Wake the f up people. It’s only our children’s futures we’re talking about here, and it’s happening now.
Glyphosate is not the “G” in GMO. Glyphosate is NoT a pesticide it’s a herbicide. All farmers unless farming on a terroir is spraying their crops even organic farmers. Organic certified livestock can be given oxytocin (actually the man made version) and antibiotics for certain afflictions. GMO cotton “bullguard” only has to be sprayed 3 times instead of the 13 times if it wasn’t. And with pesticide not glyphosate because again glyphosate is a herbicide that prevent photosynthesis on plants that have come through the surface. Glyphosate binds with soil reducing run off into streams. And before I anyone gets all fussy about binding with soil the bacteria in the soil can break it down. The half live being 193 days or 96 days in an aquatic environment you know just incase it were to become run off. Glyphosate is pretty safe compared to the stuff they used to used. Not saying its perfect. Oh and the reason people might urinate it if they were to ingest it is because the body doesn’t hold on to it. So instead of testing urine they should test tissue. Makes me wonder if the organic allowed pesticides are excreted or if they are still in their body.
I’m a little confused about the posts you all are making, because the video is about reducing pesticides that are supposedly being fed to you in conventional products, but you are talking about not wanting to eat GMOs (which stands for genetically modified organisms, by the way, I think some of you are confused). But Many GMOs are created specifically to beore pest resistant so you don’t need to treat them with pesticides. So, these products should give you the same benefits of the much more expensive and less sustainable organize foods discussed in this video.
Also, does anyone know this study they conducted was published? I’d like to know more about their findings, and how they controlled the variables, because it looked like they were not only eating organic, but that they were also eating healthier, so maybe the organic label was not the only thing that could have caused these changes. I’d like to understand more. I would also like to know how they controlled for the placebo effect, does anyone know more about their methods? Let me know!
I don’t mean to attack anyone, but the claims made here seem dubious at best, and contradict many peer-reviewed scientific studies I have read, so I’m not quite willing to break my bank account over some unsubstantiated research.
Glyphosate Modified Organisms (GMO)are definitely DO NOT do a body good! Anyone who says they do is ignorant. All that need be is to educate yourself, and Thierry Vrain is an excellent start for doing just that. https://youtu.be/yiU3Ndi6itk
Boy-o-boy, this fear-driven pseudo-science sure is satisfying, isn’t it!?!
It’s in urine, people – leaving your body – as the body is smart to do with anything it can’t use.
And . . .
“Although those who ate conventional produce had double the amount of pesticides in their urine, it’s still well below the safety levels” . . . “If you look at how much these people are being exposed to, it’s about 1000-fold less than the estimated safety levels of pesticide exposure,” he says or those who eat mostly or all organic produce.”
What you’re doing is feeding the specialty food industry driven by Whole Foods – almost as big a corporate monster with lobbying power as the demonized Monsanto.
And oh yeah – there is not one shred of evidence (well, except in crackpot pseudo-science websites) that would stop me fromt whole heartedly supporting GMOs.
Those who think GMO’s are good for you, need to be educated. If your body can not detect the nutritional value of the food you take in there is something wrong. Look at all the auto immune deseases that are on the rise. Wake up people.
Really? Genetic modification happens and has happened naturally every day since the beginning of life! Natural selection, adaptation, survival of the fittest. Breeders of dogs, cats, cows, pigs, flowers, grains, grass etc…genetically manipulated through breeding programs. Get a grip people. As in every thing there will be controversy, hearsay and un scientific research Show me the bodies!!!
I know first hand the difference between eating organic and non-organic. You want to keep GMOs out as well because you don’t know what your eating. I was eating a lot of non-organic fruits and veggies, and I started having flashes. I thought maybe “that time” had come. My health care provider said he wasn’t so sure. He treated me with acupuncture (N.A.E.T. treatments), I started eating only organic (or at least as much I could control) – they completely went away!! I was poisoning myself with pesticides.
I wish you could edit comments here – I wanted to add that I do think organic food is generally less bad for you than non-organic. I just don’t think we should kid ourselves that organic food – once it gets to the huge scale of todays factory farms – represents some kind of nirvana of purity especially when we as consumers want it all (organic, year-round fresh food of infinite variety!) We need to make many changes to our food production system and to our own expectations – it’s not all down corporations; its also down to us. (easier said than done, I know.) And if you’re interested here’s a great site to find good info on which organic food is the most worthwhile http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/summary.php
Jo – thank you for your comment and I’m going to do more research. It’s true that no known risk isn’t the same as no risk. But I’m worried by the readiness of people to rely on bad studies – studies like the tumour study which has been thoroughly discredited. And Andre wants to know if there are any questions about his prescription for safe eating (organic). Well yes I do have a question: since most of the organic food on the market today comes from factory farms which use heavy amounts of non-synthetic pesticides, is it actually safer and is it actually better for the environment? It is a myth that there are no pesticides in organic food (a myth which can only be believed by people who haven’t ever tried to grow food!) I do hope that without acrimony people can continue to debate these issues – and remember, a little skepticism on all sides never hurt anyone!
Think about this: The chemicals that showed up in their urine passed THROUGH their bodies!!! Since ‘organic’ foods CAN use certain chemicals, after going organic for 2 weeks their bodies must have been absorbing the chemicals! Remember that to be certified ‘organic’, the food product must have a certification number. Always ask to see the certification!!
Tori Smith, Sarah Schultz , and all others who believe GMOs are safe …
Can you show results of a study conducted on humans showing GMOs are safe? The answer is no, because there are no such studies. NONE of the GMO studies Monsanto uses were actually conducted on humans. The two main studies Monsanto uses to “prove” GMOs are not harmful to humans are as follows:
1. In Dec 2010, the European Commission published a report summarizing results of 50 research projects, none of which were conducted on humans. For example, in one such project, “The project aims to extrapolate biomarkers that correlate potential GMO effects during gestation, growth, and maturation in various animal models with those of humans.” Key word here is EXTRAPOLATE. It means they are trying to project the results of animal studies to humans, not that they actually did any studies on humans.
2. The 2nd study that Monsanto uses to “prove” GMOs are not harmful to humans is a LITERATURE REVIEW OF ANIMAL FEEDING.” Please note that a literature review is not a study. It is only going back through previously published conclusions, and this particular study, to repeat, was done on animals. See below.
In 2012, a literature review of well-designed, long-term and multigenerational animal feeding studies comparing GM and non-GM potatoes, soy, rice, corn and triticale found that GM crops and their non-GM counterparts are nutritionally equivalent and can be safely used in food and feed.”

I used to be one of those “don’t bother talking to me about GMOs… it is just hollow marketing” until I finally opened my eyes and did a little research. There is a MASSIVE difference between HYBRIDIZATION and GMO. Hybridization (which is what Neil DGT refers to in his famous reply to GMOs) is the process of combining 2 (or more) plants into one organism AFTER the seed has sprouted, creating a hybrid species that could possibly have also been developed over time in nature. GMO is the genetic alteration of the seed by injecting “beneficial” properties directly into the dormant seed, effecting the DNA at a cellular level, resulting in a plant that has little relation to its naturally occurring counterpart. When you create seeds that are resistant to pesticides and herbicides, the bugs and weeds become stronger, resulting in the need for higher and higher levels of poison to be applied. These poisons run through the open water system and get evaporated into the atmosphere, only to be rained down upon us later. There are loads of well-made documentaries that explore this issue, start with GMO OMG, and perhaps you will be open enough to see the other side. For more information on this discussion, check out http://www.summerswellnesscoach.com/your-environment-is-making-you-sick/
They never addressed the REASONS why the family chose the food with all the chemicals. They clearly stated “it cost more than conventional food and they had a large family”. In short, they couldnt afford it. Not once did they say it was because they piked the pesticide food better. It wasnt cost effective with I would wager is why almost EVERYONE isnt able to go organic. How about addressing that issue and try solving that problem? Solve that and people would gladly go organic.. given the same price points. There is a clear agenda for these studies and it isnt for health
Its not just what you you put in your body – your skin is the biggest living organ and a two-way membrane which absorbs into your bloodstream. It can’t filter like digestive enzymes, kidneys etc. Use only pure organic soaps and creams too!!! I love this range http://www.nourishorganics.com.
I lose respect for idiots who still claim that vaccines cause autism. The study that claimed this and caused a big fuss was complete crap and a 5th grader could tell you that after seeing how the study was conducted. The study was on 12 kids to see the effects of vaccines on stomach issues. The study was quickly changed when funding from parents looking to file a lawsuit against drug companies got involved. Study was set up to win lawsuits and in some cases it did. Can’t always trust the courts or every scientific study.
We need to not go into conclusion with GMO. Btw… I thought the purpose of gmo was to infact use less pesticide.Maybe i am wrong. I also like the fact that some farming do mixte different of plants, like potatoes.. so insects dont get into them… they dont need pesticide when they farm like this.
Gm food has not been around long enough to claim they are not harmful. Also follow the money , who would benefit by all the scary gmo and Monsanto drama??
AT has it right. GM is just a toolkit. It’s what you do with it that creates benefits and risks. If some GMOs are developed by chemical companies to hook farmers into pesticide/herbicide monopolies that doesn’t mean we should scrap the technology. Any technology can be used for good or evil.
Has anyone found you were diagnosed with Celiacs Disease but switched to an all organic diet and had the Celiac’s cured? As in, you were able to tolerate Organic Wheat or Spelt?
Amazing to me that anyone here may question GMO foods as being healthy. Despite the thought process of taking genes and using them to modify a plant to obtain characteristics we prefer, how about taking into consideration the business aspect alone.
GMO foods require specific fertilizers and specific pesticides, an amazing little business strategy.
oh and btw, have you noticed the strength of the FDA go straight to hell. Bush fired the head of the FDA when GMO’S were questioned to deeply.
science is science but I could buy a scientist to say some crap too.
facts are facts and although we may not be able to pinpoint that GMO foods are a cause of major health issues, we can derive the fact that they contribute mightily to organ issues.
it’s what happens when one smokes a cigarette, a few chemicals in and a ton out. Over 5 carcinogens are inhaled over 200 exhaled.
buuuut they bought that science for a long time too…
Just because you don’t get accutely ill from gmo foods doesn’t mean there isn’t chonic implications. No one denies that smoking causes cancer but does everyone who smokes get cancer, no, its epigenetic. If you are predisposed, smoking increases your risk but doesn’t guarantee it. Same with vaccines and autism, if you have weakness in your genes, the toxins in vaccines can possibly trigger neurological damage. You can’t deny it. Why are there vaccine courts to settle this very issue? Gmos are in the same catagory. It’s not definite they will harm everyone, but the risks to organ and intestinal damage are not ones I want to take. And the claim they are the most tested foods on the market is pure bulls#$ t. Most gmo foods have been passed into the market as gras. Generally regarded as safe based on the fact that each of the components being crossed have already been tested. Not tested as a combined organsim, just individually.
In all these studies, all you can do is decide which money chain you wish to follow. It is usually about the money no matter which side you take. It is so funny to hear each side say the other side is backed by big money, when it is actually both sides.
GMOs aren’t the inherent issue. They have the potential to do great things, including making food hardier and more nutritious. The problem is the primary means in which we employ them – genetically modifying a plant to make it resistant to chemical sprays, glyphosate in particular. Pesticides are a much greater concern for our health.
There are many university studies that link GMO’S to tumor growth and serious digestive issues. It’s your choice whether or not to eat GMO’S and Organics. Self research is key on this issue. Honestly the food industry should at least label the food instead of trying to hide their genitic origin. I personally enjoy a clean Organic diet… with exellent energy… The best result is serious digestive issues that are completely healed. I personally would rather pay the farmer than the modern medical industry.
If you do a risk assessment, it’s very simple: GMO and non-organic foods *might* hurt you, but GMO-free and organic foods *won’t* hurt you. Any questions?
Wow I Believe this study. But what are they drinking? I know when I started Drink Alkaline /Ionized Water My heath Improved.I can tell you more feel free 2 ask
Sorry but IMHO it is the minuscule amounts of toxins in our food that are the most dangerous. These are so small our bodies are unable to detect them and purge them naturally. In larger amounts, the human body activates various defences. Some of you already know animal mutations commonly appear in areas where pesticide or heavy metals are thought to be below acceptable levels. The politicking in our food supply only aggravates the crisis.
Those graphs are presented in a way to skew the data. The amount of pesticides they found was next to nothing at less than 3 nanograms (10^-9) to a ml. They makes it seem like a ton when the graph shows 3 ng/ml being extremely high and then a huge drop when switching to organic. This video is just propaganda. They shouldn’t have to trick us to make organic foods look good. It’s just a marketing ploy.
Amanda, I’m with you that politics is really the issue. And I think it’s really important to understand what’s going on with the global food supply in terms of corporate supply. But the political nature of the food supply is nothing new nor is it just linked to GMOs. Go back to the Irish potato famine where the politics of land, colonialism and global trade doomed people to starvation (and countless other examples.) So by all means we should talk about politics and economic factors but I do object to using bogus science to fear monger. And I agree 100% about butter!!
Sometimes it’s not about science. Sometimes it is the politics. I don’t like the idea that these companies have patents on genetic information and I don’t like the idea that they can disrupt our food supply if they so choose. If a farmer plants something they should be able to use seeds from that crop to grow the next year’s crop without having to pay again.
Some organic stuff just tastes better too, like butter vs margerine. (Butter for the win!!!)
David Jericho – I know the science is clear on climate change. I should have been clearer. I definitely lean left and am very concerned about environmental change (and well informed as well.). But I think there is a contradiction on the left where the same people who trust science on climate change distrust it on GMOs. I’m not saying GMOs are the answer or that we should unquestioningly believe everything scientists say but I think their danger GMOs is greatly exaggerated. And I know that even saying that amongst many of my friends is heresy!! Here’s an interesting article saying this better than I do – http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/25/opinion/sunday/how-i-got-converted-to-gmo-food.html
There is no known risk to humans from GMOs. The science is as clear on this as it is on climate change. The studies which claimed organ damage or tumours from BT corn have been found faulty by other scientists – just like the claims that like vaccines and autism. You don’t have to support GMOs but I do think we should be discussing them with more accurate science. (I have no personal stake in this.)
Sarah Schultz is about as wrong as someone can be about something. Obviously a paid troll to say stupid things that mislead the people her family are helping to make sick by their stupid, profit motivated farming practice. Can’t wait until you either a) go out of business or b) go organic while eating GMO crow. Your days of being paid by big agribusiness to lie to your neighbors and customers are running out, and don’t expect mercy when your broke and your soil is worthless.
Studies that show “organ failure in rats” have universally been rejected by reputable scientists and independent research organizations for being poorly designed and badly interpreted, and their results haven’t been duplicated in any valid test. IN other words, it was made up by people who were only interested in finding evidence to support their existing beliefs.
Sorry Sarah. You are incorrect. BT corn has been shown to cause organ damage in mice.
The greater risk of GMO is that we don’t understand the possible outcomes, and once it is out it is hard to control the spread.
Don’t give me the argument that we have been selectively breeding for thousands of years. That involves crossing similar organisms that can interbreed. What we are doing now is lifting genes from one organism and putting them in another.
If you are growing GMOs you are financially motivated for them to be ok, so why would you be objective?
If GMOs are so safe, why does big business not want labeling?
Hi Caroline, I’m a farm wife and mom in Alberta and on our family farm we grow wheat, canola (GMO & non-GMO) and yellow peas. GM food pose absolutely no known health risks and they are the most heavily tested and regulated foods in our health system.
It’s a no-brainer. If it’s got a bar code on it, you will find it’s not good for you.
Eat fresh food when ever possible.
Everyone just needs to chill out on the whole GMO thing. Just watch the video. https://youtu.be/KNtCV67biBA
Over 5 carcinogens are inhaled over 200 exhaled.
buuuut they bought that science for a long time too…
I’m not on a wing, but I am right!
I agree with Spencer
There are many university studies that link GMO’S to tumor growth and serious digestive issues. It’s your choice whether or not to eat GMO’S and Organics. Self research is key on this issue. Honestly the food industry should at least label the food instead of trying to hide their genitic origin. I personally enjoy a clean Organic diet… with exellent energy… The best result is serious digestive issues that are completely healed. I personally would rather pay the farmer than the modern medical industry.
Ok so they where not eating organic before the experiment. BUT the son was already wearing organic clothing. That’s also a great thing!
Some people are defending GMO’s on here, but it’s the insecticides they put on them that is the big problem. GMO’s are heavily sprayed. No thanks!
I think if I licked my wedding ring I’d pass more nanograms of gold than this.
I meant corporate control not corporate supply.
Um the science is very clear on climate change Tori Smith. Don’t be as ignorant as the rest of your political affiliation.

Any further questions, please feel free to connect with me at nurselovesfarmer.com
Very good video. Thank you for sharing. We are speaking of Organic foods, how about Genetically Modified Foods, do they cause health risks?
