What We Can Learn From Insect Sex
This Ted Talk from entomologist Marlene Zuk touches on a lot of interesting concepts--stereotypes about sexuality, anthropomorphizing of insects, and the desire to associate masculinity with certain physical abilities--but the most intriguing to me is her point about "model organisms" in the study of diseases. In most studies, researchers test exclusively male organisms in order to maintain consistency. But if this is the case, how can we hope to achieve accurate data?
Sorry, we are not discussing this one.
