Another day, another story about a girl violating a new dress code. What does it say to girls—and boys—when it becomes officially girls' responsibility to control male behavior? It says that boys cannot control themselves, and that we aren't even trying to get them to learn how. It plants the seed of shaming and victim blaming before girls are even aware that their bodies have any significance beyond the shape that they move through the world in. Shouldn't we be teaching our sons to behave respectfully regardless of how wide a girls' tank strap is? Something has to change. And it's not the clothes that girls are wearing.
